چکیده

A heterotrophic and autotrophic denitrification (HAD) system shows satisfactory performance for groundwater with nitrate contamination. In this study, an HAD combining solid-phase electrochemical hydrogen (SHD-EHD) was developed the treatment of nitrate-contaminated groundwater, in which polycaprolactone (PCL) used as carbon source to enhance removal prevent secondary pollution (EHD) system. The performance, microbial community structure nitrogen metabolism were investigated. results showed that a high rate 99.04% achieved influent concentration 40 mg/L, current mA hydraulic retention time (HRT) 4 h. By comparing EHD system, it found PCL promoted complete reduced accumulation NO2?-N. Analysis identified key denitrifying bacteria: Dechloromonas, Thauera Hydrogenophaga. comparison communities from SHD-EHD (SHD) demonstrated electrical stimulation abundance dominant bacteria electroactive bacteria. metabolic pathway revealed conversion NO N2O rate-limiting step overall pathway. study great potential removal.

Characteristics of heterotrophic/biofilm-electrode autotrophic denitrification for nitrate removal from groundwater.

A heterotrophic/biofilm-electrode autotrophic denitrification reactor (HAD-BER) was developed to improve denitrification efficiency and reduce the consumption of organic carbon source. Maximum nitrate removal efficiency of 99.9% was gained under the optimum current density of 200 mA/m(2). The number of heterotrophic denitrification bacteria (HDB) 2.0 × 10(5) and hydrogen autotrophic denitrifica...

Nitrate and bromate removal by autotrophic and heterotrophic denitrification processes: batch experiments

The effects of various parameters on bromate reduction were tested using lab-scale batch reactors with sulfur based autotrophic and methanol based heterotrophic denitrification processes. The initial bromate (BrO3-) concentration of 100 and 500 μg/L was completely reduced and bromide (Br-) was produced stoichiometrically from bromate in all batch reactors. In all experiments, nitrate was comple...

Removal of highly elevated nitrate from drinking water by pH-heterogenized heterotrophic denitrification facilitated with ferrous sulfide-based autotrophic denitrification.

The performance of acetic acid-supported pH-heterogenized heterotrophic denitrification (HD) facilitated with ferrous sulfide-based autotrophic denitrification (AD) was investigated in upflow activated carbon-packed column reactors for reliable removal of highly elevated nitrate (42 mg NO(3)-Nl(-1)) in drinking water. The use of acetic acid as substrate provided sufficient internal carbon dioxi...

Behavior of autotrophic denitrification and heterotrophic denitrification in an intensified biofilm-electrode reactor for nitrate-contaminated drinking water treatment.

An intensified biofilm-electrode reactor (IBER) was developed to treat nitrate-contaminated drinking water. Different running conditions were conducted to investigate the behavior of autotrophic denitrification (AD) and heterotrophic denitrification (HD) in the IBER. In AD process, the nitrate nitrogen coulomb-reduction rate was used to evaluate the performance of the reactor. The maximum NO(3)...

Autotrophic denitrification of synthetic nitrate-contaminated groundwater in up-flow fixed-bed bioreactor by pumice as porous media

Background: Increasing nitrate concentrations in groundwater resources is considered a common environmental and public health problem worldwide. In this research, an autotrophic up-flow bioreactor with pumice as media was used to study the effects of the sulfur-to-nitrogen (S/N) ratio and empty bed contact time (EBCT) on nitrate removal efficiency and byproducts. Methods: Experiments were car...
